Important information about Privacy Legislation

The Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act 2000 came into effect 21 December 2001. This Act makes it compulsory for most non-government schools to observe the National Privacy Principles (NPP's).

To comply with these Principles when applying for Australian Government Targeted Programmes funding, you must advise parents of students involved in the application that you will be providing information on their child to us. This will include any students involved in applications for Literacy/Numeracy, Integration, Children with Severe Disabilities, Capital Works and Equipment for students with disabilities, ESL - New Arrivals, Special Schools, Integration - Special Schools and Non-School Organisations.

You are required to issue a new notice each year to the parents of students involved in funding applications.

The following wording for the notification (on your letterhead) will enable you to comply with the requirements of the Privacy Legislation :

This school will be sending personal and sensitive information on your child to the Association of Independent Schools of NSW (AISNSW) for the purpose of accessing Australian Government funding and support services.

If you do not give your permission to forward information on your child to AISNSW you must advise this school that your permission is withheld.
